Abstract

Twenty-first-century education continues to be dominated by an instrumental paradigm that emphasizes knowledge transfer and workforce preparation, often failing to cultivate individuals with social and ecological responsibility. This concern aligns with Paulo Freire's critique of the "banking model" of education. This article proposes a recontextualization of Jesus Christ's pedagogy in John 4 as a paradigm of liberating and restorative education. Using a hermeneutical approach, it argues that Jesus' pedagogy, grounded in the Christology of the Logos, challenges gender and ethnic marginalization through His dialogue with the Samaritan woman. This encounter not only liberates her from social and religious exclusion as the imago Dei but also transforms her into an agent of change. Such personal liberation becomes the ethical foundation for responsibility toward others and the environment. Therefore, the dialogical pedagogy of Jesus in John 4 provides a biblical foundation for a liberative educational framework that promotes holistic sustainability and offers practical guidance for educators, theologians, and environmental advocates in fostering collaborative and justice-oriented sustainable action.
