Refleksi Etika Biblis Menanggapi Risiko Kerusakan Lingkungan Akibat Proyek Geothermal di Nusa Tenggara Timur
Main Article Content
Abstract
Environmental damage often occurs as a direct result of development without adequate environmental impact analysis. One national project that has come under scrutiny is the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) project in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). There are concerns that this geothermal project in Ende will damage the environment and harm the community. The Catholic Church and indigenous communities in Flores do not approve of this geothermal project plan. This study aims to review the Catholic Church's biblical reflections in response to the risk of environmental damage caused by the geothermal project in Ende, NTT. This study uses a literature review method to explore biblical reflections from the Book of Genesis regarding the duty of every human being as a guardian of the environment and focus group discussions (FGD) with sources who are familiar with this issue. The results of the study show that the Book of Genesis contains a command for humans to rule over the earth as guardians, not as destructive rulers as Lynn White once claimed in his interpretation of biblical anthropology. Furthermore, the rejection by the bishops and congregation in NTT is well-founded because it is based on a coherent reflection of faith regarding humanity's responsibility to care for creation, as expressed in the concept of integral ecology by the late Pope Francis.
