Kompetensi Guru Katolik di Tengah Tuntutan Tugas Profesional sebagai Pendidik

Abstract
Catholic teachers have a distinctive role in education as witnesses of the Christian faith for their students. However, professional and administrative demands often reduce the time and attention devoted to this mission. This qualitative study aims to examine and describe the competencies of Catholic teachers through a literature review method. The study focuses on three main competencies: (1) faith and spiritual competence, which provides the authentic foundation for teaching and exemplary living; (2) pedagogical and professional competence, which integrates teaching skills with the mission of evangelization through a distinctly Catholic approach; and (3) social and pastoral competence, which positions teachers as spiritual mentors who are sensitive to social justice and service to the poor. In addition, Catholic teachers are expected to meet national professional standards, including pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies. Within the Catholic educational context, these requirements are enriched by the integration of faith and Christian values. The findings indicate that these three competencies are interrelated and collectively shape the holistic identity of Catholic teachers amid professional demands. This study contributes to the formulation of competency standards for Catholic teachers and provides guidance for Catholic educational institutions in developing teacher competency enhancement programs.
Abstrak
Guru Katolik memiliki peran khas dalam pendidikan sebagai saksi iman Kristiani bagi para siswa. Namun, tuntutan profesional dan administratif sering kali mengurangi perhatian guru terhadap pelaksanaan kesaksian iman tersebut. Penelitian kualitatif ini bertujuan menelaah dan mendeskripsikan kompetensi guru Katolik melalui metode kajian literatur. Fokus penelitian meliputi tiga kompetensi utama, yaitu: (1) kompetensi iman dan spiritualitas sebagai dasar autentik pengajaran dan teladan hidup; (2) kompetensi pedagogis dan profesional yang mengintegrasikan keterampilan mengajar dengan misi pewartaan iman; serta (3) kompetensi sosial dan pastoral yang menempatkan guru sebagai pendamping rohani dan pribadi yang peka terhadap keadilan sosial serta pelayanan kepada kaum miskin. Di samping itu, guru Katolik juga dituntut memenuhi standar profesional nasional yang mencakup kompetensi pedagogik, profesional, sosial, dan kepribadian. Dalam konteks pendidikan Katolik, tuntutan tersebut diperkaya melalui integrasi iman dan nilai-nilai Kristiani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga kompetensi tersebut saling berkaitan dan membentuk identitas utuh guru Katolik dalam menghadapi tuntutan profesionalitas. Temuan ini dapat menjadi dasar perumusan standar kompetensi guru Katolik serta pengembangan program peningkatan kompetensi di lembaga pendidikan Katolik.
