Dialog Kisah Penciptaan dalam I La Galigo dan Kejadian: Analisis Komparatif dan Relevansinya bagi Ekologi Integral
Main Article Content
Abstract
The story of creation is an important foundation in every religious and cultural tradition. The story of creation depicts the relationship between the Divine, humans, and the universe. This paper provides a comparative study of the story of creation in the epic I La Galigo from the Bugis tradition and Genesis 1–2 from the Bible. This study highlights the differences and similarities in the two narratives using Kaufman's theoretical framework, with three perspectives: gods/God, humans, and the world. The results of the analysis show that I La Galigo reflects a cosmocentric view with a close connection between Dewata SuwaE, the upper world, the middle world, and the underworld, as well as humans who are present to maintain cosmic balance. Meanwhile, the Book of Genesis presents a monotheistic understanding that affirms God as the Almighty Creator, humans as the image of God, and the created world as “very good.” This fundamental difference between polytheism and monotheism results in different theological styles, but both emphasize human responsibility towards creation. Thus, this comparative reading reveals the contributions of both traditions to the discourse on integral ecology: I La Galigo teaches the importance of cosmic harmony, while the Book of Genesis affirms the dignity of creation as God's truly (very) good gift. These two texts can open up space for intercultural and interreligious dialogue to build a more holistic ecological awareness.
